This oak sideboard comes from the Basque Country where it is called “manka”.
Basque mankas, therefore, are characterized by the fact that their tray opens onto a large chest. This offers more storage space than the usual drawers.
Another particularity of the mankas: the top of the doors is arched.
However, what is most striking at first glance about this sideboard lies more in its decor. Treated in the traditional Louis XV style, with its scalloped doors and eventful bottom crosspiece, this manka boasts an entirely original way of inlays of alternating light and dark wood. An elaborate country marquetry that reveals a compass rose as well as well contrasting trapezoidal and chevron decorations.
