Walnut sideboard – 18ᵗʰ century – South-West – [MP030]

This sideboard offers us a rare vision:

that of the three styles Louis XIII, Louis XIV and Louis XV brought together in a single creation.

• The sliding drawers adorned with diamonds are in the Louis XIII style

• The moldings that occupy the entire extent of the uprights and crosspieces framing the doors evoke the Louis XIV style

• While the arched feet called “pieds de biche” are typical of the Louis XV style.

The artisan carpenter in furniture, author of this piece of furniture has thus achieved the prodigy of celebrating three kings, three reigns, in this ceremonial piece of furniture intended to promote the social success of its sponsor. Small noble or country nobleman living in his manor house or peasant who managed to rise in the world of the Bourgeois thanks to his prosperous activities: cultivation of cereals and breeding of fat oxen, which raised him to the art of living of noble houses.
